Inspired

Here's some inspiration from the HOPE mini album Jowilna made a few months back. Here I used all my old scraps of paper and the finished album really looked "hand-made". In fact it almost resembled a bit of a patchwork which is what I loved about it. Not all the pages were the exact same size, it wasn't perfect, it wasn't straight and neat and tidy. That's why it was so much fun to make.
If you're a perfectionist, this may drive you crazy but I challenge you, to once in a while, hide your ruler, and just cut! It's liberating!

Busy, busy, busy!

ScrapPink class hosted at Scraptifity
It's been hectically busy these past few weeks, so much so that we haven't even managed to post the photos from our first ScrapPink class at Scraptifity - better late than never though. So here is some feedback from the class and soon we will be able to start telling you about more ScrapPink classes being hosted at other scrapbooking shops between now and November! All very exciting!
L-R: {Jowilna & Tanya with HOPE}, {The ScrapPink class}, {HOPE checking out stuff!}

Thanks to Jowilna Nolte from Imagine Magazine who taught the class - and wow - what a project. I think I can safely say that every single person who attended, loved the class and the project PLUS 15% of the sales from the class have been donated to ScrapPink. We're raising funds for a great cause and every bit helps!

L-R: {ScrapPink friends, Lorraine & Charlene}, {Erika, Tanya & HOPE}; {ScrapPink project}

I was so happy to have breast cancer survivor, Erika, in the class. I gave her one huge BIG hug because she's been on a tough journey through chemo and everything else that comes with a breast cancer diagnosis. She and many other breast cancer survivors are the ones who have motivated me and inspired me to make ScrapPink happen. What amazing, amazing women you all are. Then there are those who have been through the journey, fought the battle and said goodbye to us.
Smiling because of Lella
I want to mention another dynamic, awesome woman, Lella Cullingworth, who after her breast cancer diagnosis, lived for many years. She made a real difference to many women's lives, wrote a book about her breast cancer journey, made people smile, made them cry and never complained about anything. Her strength and determination to make her life fulfilling and also help other patients was truly remarkable. Sadly Lella decided that her battle should come to an end. I won't ever forget Lella and my heart goes out to her hubby Brendan and their two boys. So Lella, ScrapPink is for you too, because you always made me smile.

Christy's style

So, as you know Christy is coming to ScrapPink - she has even told the world she's coming on her blog! So we're posting a couple of her layouts so you can get a feel for her style. What do you think?
Isn't it simple, clean and fresh? I love her handwriting.
Speaking of handwriting, I came across my Heidi Swapp "love your handwriting" book and realised I was only halfway through the exercises. If you haven't seen the book, Heidi gives tips on how to improve your handwriting. I want to "love" my handwriting, but for some reason I "hate" it. Are you like me?? I think I'll post some tips from the book to inspire anyone out there who is in need of "loving" their handwriting too.

HANDWRITING TIP # 1: use your own handwriting (good place to start!)

Many of us have more than one style of handwriting - probably cursive and print, hurried and slow, depending on what we are writing. If you're like me (Tanya), you scribble down your shopping list in a hurry, but take care and time in writing in a birthday card. Look at the difference in style and then play with those styles. Find a notebook to practice in. Write slow. Write fast. Write messy. Write neat. Write BIG. Write small. Just write! We are all so used to email that we never get to write much these days. So here's my challenge JUST WRITE whenever you can this week. Practice your styles in a notebook, write a letter, journal and enjoy it. I promise to share my practicing with you!

Hope mini album from Imagine

Welcome to Imagine magazine, our supporting Media Partner to Threads & Crafts magazine. Imagine is published by Studio J and what a delicious scrapbooking mag it is! It's got a coffee table book feel to it and the photography is wonderful.

Editor in Chief, Jowilna Nolte has designed a special little project just for our ScrapPink blog visitors, it's in the spirit of ScrapPink, bringing hope, meaning and warmth to our lives - and ofcourse it's a pink project, but you can really use this project with your own favourite colour combo's.

Thanks Imagine and Studio J for your support to ScrapPink!
This is a perfect mini-album to use all those leftovers after you have created a double page layout. This is exactly what I have done. And because I love using left-overs and utilising every piece of stunning paper I have, I created this album pieced together with all the pink pieces of paper and embellishments I could find in my stash. Create a base for your album and punch some holes in the side lining them up with the base of your album. Add the pages together, then add a Plexiglass front cover and bind the album together with book rings. Decorate the cover using cardstock letters and embellishments. Finish off the album inside by adding meaningful quotes, This is the perfect album to complete for a friend in need of support, someone recovering from breast cancer or a just because album showing your appreciation. Find inspiration in everything you do and create a album of hope for someone in need. Have fun! Jowilna

HOPE in Paris

Bonjour! (hello!)
HOPE has just returned from a quick visit to Paris where she managed to spend a warm and beautiful Sunday afternoon in the Jardin des Tuileries. this is Paris's most central garden. It connects the Louvre (the museum which houses the famous "Mona Lisa' painting, with the Place de la Concorde.
Jardin des Tuileries

Jardin des Tuileries is one of those parks where you can grab a chair for free and sit wherever you like. It also features several fountains, two large basins, numerous sculptures and two museums, the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume and the Musée de l'Orangerie, which displays Claude Monet's large water lily paintings . Those two buildings are the only remains of the original Palais de Tuileries.
You can see the Eiffel Tower from the Park and walk from the Louvre, down the Ave Champs Elysee (famous for it's shops!) right down to the Arc de Triomphe.

Unfortunately HOPE didn't have time to go shopping on the Champs-Elysees but she did manage to have lunch in the Park and enjoy all the sights!

5 Minutes to Life

As you know, PinkLink is ScrapPink's beneficiary for 2008. We're proud to be associated with this breast cancer education and advocacy organisation.

Breast cancer kills more women globally than any other cancer. Breast cancer is colour blind. Traditionally this disease was thought to primarily affect older women but is fast becoming an epidemic amongst younger women.

The solution lies in early detection and treatment.
Visit the Pink Link 5 Minutes for Life webpage where you will be empowered to better understand your potential risk for breast cancer. It will guide you as to which risk factors exist for breast cancer and how to do self examination. The 5Min For Life Breast Risk test is private and absolutely free. Take it now...

HOPE visits Italy

Our little pink "Sperare" (that means Hope in Italian) enjoyed the sights of Rome and sparked many conversation's with Italians and other tourists about ScrapPink. She learned some beautiful Italian phrases which she believes are relevant for you scrapbookers and particularly breast cancer patients and survivors.

Come sei bella - How beautiful you are.
Siate felici - Be happy
Sia forte - Be strong

Here she is at some of the world's most ancient sites.

Trevi Fountain
Rome
(Image: Canon Ixus 70)
The Trevi Fountain is the largest — standing 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters wide — and most ambitious of the Baroque fountains of Rome. The fountain at the juncture of three roads marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua Vergine, the revivified Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome

Colosseum
Rome
(Image: Canon 400D)
The Colosseum or Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. Construction started between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus

Pompeii
near Naples
(Image: Canon Ixus 70)
Pompeii is a ruined and partially buried Roman in the Italian region of Campania.
It was destroyed and completely buried, during a catastrophic eruption of the
volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning two days on 24 August 79 AD.
The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under many meters of
ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Watch this space for photos of HOPE's next adventure!
