HOPE visits Italy

Our little pink "Sperare" (that means Hope in Italian) enjoyed the sights of Rome and sparked many conversation's with Italians and other tourists about ScrapPink. She learned some beautiful Italian phrases which she believes are relevant for you scrapbookers and particularly breast cancer patients and survivors.

Come sei bella - How beautiful you are.
Siate felici - Be happy
Sia forte - Be strong

Here she is at some of the world's most ancient sites.

Trevi Fountain
Rome
(Image: Canon Ixus 70)
The Trevi Fountain is the largest — standing 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters wide — and most ambitious of the Baroque fountains of Rome. The fountain at the juncture of three roads marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua Vergine, the revivified Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome

Colosseum
Rome
(Image: Canon 400D)
The Colosseum or Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. Construction started between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus

Pompeii
near Naples
(Image: Canon Ixus 70)
Pompeii is a ruined and partially buried Roman in the Italian region of Campania.
It was destroyed and completely buried, during a catastrophic eruption of the
volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning two days on 24 August 79 AD.
The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under many meters of
ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Read all about it

We're making news! Look out for articles like this one in your local Caxton community newspaper. This one was printed in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

Caxton is our print media partner and supporting ScrapPink very generously through Threads & Crafts magazine, Your Family, Women & Home, Rooi Rose and all their community newspapers.
This clipping reminds me of the very basic scrapbooking days when we as kids we would use a big A3 soft cover book with brown paper pages-called a scrapbook.
We'd cut and stick all our favourite magazine pictures and other paraphernalia into it. Did you ever do that? Bet you did! I wonder if any of you still have one in a drawer hidden away. Why not email us at info@scrappink.co.za and tell us about your very first scrapbook.

Meet our newest ScrapPink team member. Her name is HOPE and her mission is to journey the world and our beautiful country to tell everyone about ScrapPink. What a lucky gal she is, don't you think? She's pretty adventurous, is definitely not shy and loves people. You can keep up to date with her many travels on this blog. In fact she's just recovering from a trip to Europe and we'll share those photos with you soon. She will also have her very own scrapbook which you can page through when next you visit Scraptifity. HOPE will have some invaluable educational messages to share too.

Here she is with her creator, Anina van der Walt at the Teddy Bear Exibition at Multiflora on Saturday 10th May.

Thanks Anina for bringing HOPE to life!

HOPE had a busy day on Saturday. She also visited Scraptifity where Scrapbookers where celebrating the shop's birthday. Wow, what
an amazing Making Memories project they created! The lunch at Scraptifity's coffee shop was delicious and the company delightful!

Happy Birthday Scraptifity. Birthday wishes from HOPE and the ScrapPink team.

Transparency

It’s important for us to let you know where the money raised through ScrapPink will go. We know there are so many organisations out there fundraising for various issues and often we never hear where the money goes.

We’re passionate about the cause and know that your money, through ScrapPink, is really going to make a difference in South Africa. That's why transparency in everything we do is vital. You need to know who we are, what we are doing and where the money will be used.

So who is ScrapPink?

We're a team of scrapbookers, non-scrapbookers, public relations and media professionals and breast cancer education experts. Everyday we work with breast cancer education and awareness groups and initiatives, we build relationships with patients, survivors and their families. We know the struggles, fears and hopes many women face through this disease.

We also know that scrapbookers are passionate people. The ScrapPink team is made up of creative souls, just as passionate as you are about scrapbooking, memories and hopes and dreams.

What are we doing?

We're reaching out to you, so that you can reach out to others. ScrapPink is for everyone and we're going to make a difference through creativity. ScrapPink is not just a scrapbooking event, oh, it's so much more than that! Join us on this inspirational and creative journey of hope. It will shower you with blessings, bring you joy, introduce you to new friends and warm your hearts.

Where will the money go?

This year’s ScrapPink beneficiary is an organization called PinkLink, founded and run by a dynamic woman, Samantha Galliet.

When Samantha was diagnosed at the age of 29 with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2005, she had to fight a huge legal battle to get life saving treatment. You may have read about her story in various women’s magazines or even seen her story on Carte Blanche in 2006.

Samantha Galliet

Her passion for life and helping other women diagnosed with breast cancer took her on a journey that changed her life. She quit her busy corporate job and founded PinkLink. Today she is a force to be reckoned with, as she plans and implements breast cancer education and advocacy programs. ScrapPink is proud to be supporting PinkLink and we will keep you updated on a regular basis about the organisation, Samantha and ScrapPink’s relationship with this and other breast cancer initiatives.

We’d love to hear about your stories of hope as a breast cancer patient, survivor or supporter. Email us at
